Music Residency Program

At least three times per year, the UUCSS Music Committee sponsors and helps to organize music residencies where nationally or internationally recognized musicians collaborate with UUCSS musicians to provide workshops and lead music during a Sunday service. The program is designed to enrich everyone, including the non-musicians in the congregation. Involvement does not require an ability to read music, and preference is given to artists who are interested in social action and interdisciplinary ventures. Recent artists have included celebrated UU songwriter/guitarist Jim Scott, widely published gospel choir leader Dr. Jeffery L. Ames, songwriter Elise Witt, West African master drummer and kalimba player Nana Frimpong, and the New York-based Bulgarian/Macedonian instrumental duo The Balkan Brothers.
