Meet Our Minister

Rev. Elizabeth A. Lerner

The Reverend Elizabeth Lerner is a life-long Unitarian-Universalist, raised in a family with both Jewish and Catholic roots. She graduated from Connecticut College in 1988 and worked briefly in advertising. She lived and worked in Athens, Greece for some years before entering Harvard Divinity School.

Liz received her Master of Divinity degree in 1995, and her Master of Theology degree in 1997. Her areas of academic interest are ancient Western religion, including ancient Greek and Roman religion, early Christianity and Hellenistic Judaism, and the history of women in religion. She is writing an adult religious education curriculum tracing the history of women in Western religion, from 2400 BCE to the present. Liz also works on issues of multiculturalism and ethics in religious development in our denomination and is President of the organization Unitarian Universalists for Jewish Awareness.

Before coming to Silver Spring, Liz served UU parishes in Massachusetts and New York. She was called to be the minister of our church in the Spring of 2000. Liz leads our worship most Sundays and is available for pastoral counseling to members and friends of UUCSS.
