Ushers

Remember that the goal is to support the Sunday worship experience in a friendly and organized manner so that people know where to go and what to do.

Before Service

  1. Assist with Support Team Open Up activities.
  2. Be prepared to tell parents how to find the RE-Youth class directory on the easel in the Sanctuary building entry way.
  3. Doors to the sanctuary should remain closed. The early service will begin in silence, and people are invited to light candles before the service begins to acknowledge joys or sorrows.

During Early Service:

  1. Hand out Orders of Service and announcements.
  2. Assist elderly and disabled with finding appropriate seating.
  3. Direct people to one side or the other of sanctuary to provide uniform seating, especially during the last minute rush.
  4. Please ask people to sit toward the front so that newcomers and late arrivals can sit toward the rear.
  5. Do not let latecomers into the sanctuary at times that would interrupt the service, choir, or other music.
  6. Help late-comer visitors with information, possibly help the Visitors Table
  7. Start the collection after the music has started, go up the center aisles and begin in the front of the church. You should pass baskets to BOTH the side section and the center section, AT THE SAME TIME.
  8. Take collection pouch over to the Admin office and count money from the collection over there, fill in the "Cash and Check Count" sheet, bring the collection pouch back and give it to the Collector, or her designee.
  9. Make a complete count of those present just before the beginning of the sermon. Fill out the attendance form. Adults, choir, and children are counted separately. Put the attendance sheet with the Visitors box.

After the early service:

  1. Help late-comer visitors with information they may not have gotten when they came in.
  2. Help direct visitors to coffee hour.
  3. Assist with resetting the Sanctuary.

During the later service:

  1. Hand out Orders of Service and announcements.
  2. Assist elderly and disabled with finding appropriate seating.
