The
Unitarian Universalist Affordable Housing Corporation
(UUAHC) is a Community Development Loan Fund started in 1989
by the Washington area UU churches. UUAHC loans money at below
market interest rates to non-profit developers building affordable
housing in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. In its 11-year history,
UUAHC has assisted over 50 projects , creating 400 units of
housing for low- and moderate-income people.
The UUAHC revolving loan fund recently topped $2 million.
A significant portion of the fund consists of investments
from over 200 individual UUs. Institutional investors include
religious orders and banks.
UUAHC is branching out beyond traditional home contruction
and rehabilitation loans. New UUAHC programs include child
care facilities loans, very low
interest loans for transitional housing loans, and pre-development loans. These
are all loans that banks shy away from but are critically needed to support
low-income families.
How can I help?
by investing
by making a tax deductible contribution
by volunteering
UUAHC would like all UUs to consider making annual contributions
to support its operating budget, which pays for staff, rent,
and all the other essentials of running a successful non-profit.
