Worship is when we come together to celebrate our community
and all that has meaning and worth for us. During these times together
we acknowledge our heritage, share our values, and affirm who we
are and what we believe.
Our Youth Chapel is enhanced by music, quiet meditation,
stories, singing and sharing. Each Sunday our young people are either
in the Sanctuary Worship Service or in the Youth Worship Service
with the Director of Religious Education. This service is the first
fifteen (15) to twenty (20) minutes of our Sunday morning services.
To make this time feel special and worshipful, please have children
there in time to settle in before the service begins.
In William Ellery Channing's words:
“The great end in religious instruction, whether in
the Sunday school or family, is not to stamp our minds irresistibly
on the young, but to stir up their own; not to make them see
with our eyes, but to look inquiringly and steadily with their
own; not to give them a definite amount of knowledge, but
to inspire a fervent love of truth; not to form an outward
regularity, but to touch inward springs; not to burden the
memory, but to quicken and strengthen the power of thought.
. . not to impose religion upon them in the form of arbitrary
rules which rest on no foundation but our own word and will,
but to awaken the conscience, the moral discernment so that
they may discern and approve for themselves what is everlastingly
right and good.”
