Social Action is Intergenerational: Our religious education
program seeks to encourage the development of social conscience
and provides opportunities for action to bring about positive social
change.
Our young people help with UNICEF, Manna Food Bank, Shepherd’s
Table, Food and Friends and other projects. Our community has developed
a special relationship with Beacon House, a Community Ministry in
Northeast Washington. Books and toys have been collected for Beacon
House children and our church hosts an annual Holiday Craft Party
with them. UUCSS youth and adults visit Beacon House on Saturday
mornings as part of a collaborative effort with other area Unitarian
Universalist churches.
Youth have also engaged in community service projects for our church
community, like pouring concrete in the parking lot, planting bulbs
in the garden, and cleaning the grounds or participating in a service
for our youngest children.
