Our Curriculum Provides Both Roots and Wings
Curriculum choices are made from materials published by the Unitarian
Universalist Association or other respected sources, with modifications
as necessary. In an era when religious fundamentalism is frequently
used as a tool for divisiveness, we feel it is especially important
to prepare our young people with a strong sense of what it means
to be a Unitarian Universalist and to celebrate, not fear diversity
in thought and belief.
We also want our children to be acquainted with a variety of ways
of looking at the world. An introduction to the beliefs and thoughts
of the world’s religions therefore forms an integral part
of our program. We particularly attempt to foster an enlightened
biblical literacy based on rational and critical thinking in order
to enhance an understanding of the Jewish and Christian roots of
our movement. It is our hope that through this exposure, our young
people will gain an appreciation for the value and wisdom of religious
traditions of the past that will help to inform and shape their
own emerging ideas and beliefs.
