John Murray, the first Universalist minister in America,
said, "Go out into the highways and by-ways. Give the people
something of your new vision. You may possess a small light, but
uncover it, let it shine, use it in order to bring more light and
understanding to the hearts and minds of men and women. Give them
not hell, but hope and courage."
The Outreach Committee exists to spread the gospel of liberal
religion and to support the goals of all church groups by helping
them let people know about their activities, both inside and outside
the church community.
The Committee charter includes responsibility for press releases,
the UUCSS Web site, the street signage, direct mailings, creating
and distributing flyers, setting up information tables at community
events, advertising in various targeted publications, liaison with
other area churches, and more.

Accomplishments
During the past two years, the Outreach Committee participated
with other committees in publicizing their events, helping them
write and distribute press releases, create flyers, put signs up
along New Hampshire Avenue, put up flyers in businesses and schools
in Silver Spring and Takoma Park.
We signed up for a table at the Takoma Park Folk Festival and
brought literature, people and the church banner to the event.
Seven people from church talked to hundreds of people and handed
out literature.
We hung 4 banners for the New Hampshire Avenue building side which
invited people to visit our gardens which won a community gardening
club award last year.
We brought big rainbow flags and the church banner and participated
in the Pride Day Parade in Wahsington D.C. As we walked
down the streets people on the sidelines were very positive and
cheered us. Many identified themselves as Unitarian Universalists
as we walked through
