Music Matters, Monday E-mails
Signing up to receive e-mails on Mondays will give you the scoop
on upcoming musical opportunities! To add your name, contact
the Music Directors.
Music Circles
Music Circles are usually offered twice a month after
the service and are open to everyone. No preparation or registration
is required. We offer a wide variety of circles, such as African
drums, hand chimes, string instruments, recorders, and more. Come
and try your hand at any number of instruments you’ve probably
never played before!
Suite Treat Café
Our biggest music event of the year! Each spring,
the Music Committee, in association with the choir, produces the
Suite Treat Café, a cabaret style evening of music
and desserts, which raises funds for the music committee and the
church. Not to be missed!
UUCSS Orchestra
Everyone who can play or used to play any musical instrument is
invited to join us. This group started as a holiday ensemble. The
arrangements are quite simple and the music is available in advance,
so school age children and other beginners are especially invited
to participate.
Hand Chimes
Hand chimes are similar to handbells with a more mellow sound and
easier playing technique. We use them in our Music Circles,
during Sunday services, with the children in the Religious Education
program, and during some choir rehearsals just for fun!
Opportunities for Children and Youth
Children and youth are particularly encouraged to participate in
the following:
- Music circles, particularly the Drum Circle and Chime Circle;
- UUCSS Orchestra;
- Children’s Choir; and
- Mass Choir.
Children also sing during Children’s Chapel and play the
hand chimes in some Religious Education classes.
