The first full board meeting, Oct. 9, 1952. Location uncertain,
possibly the Miller home. The large picture on the wall shows
a tower or lighthouse. From left to right: Max Miller (President),
Mr. Vollmer (UNMC Representative) , the Rev. David MacPherson
(Minister), Coral Pollack (Treasurer), Marian Browne (UNMC
Representative), Joseph Fitzpatrick (Public Relations Chair).

Below: The 13 members of the Fellowship met in the
Rolling Terrace School at 2 PM on October 19, 1952. However
note that the clock on the back wall reads 11:25. The blackboard
sports children’s artwork and a NO SMOKING sign. The
flag has 48 stars. From left to right: unidentified child,
Max Miller, Betty Perry (in a white coat), Alice Louise Miller,
unidentified male (half hidden), Gene Miller (in the dark
suit), Dorothy MacPherson (half hidden), unidentified female
(half hidden), Gladys Bristol (in the dark dress), Margaret

The stable in February, 1953, with digging just beginning
around the front of the stalls.

The stable half-converted on May 24, 1953. The lower part
of the loft door has been bricked up and turned into a window.
The outer wall of the building has been moved south and another
window is framed. The front door has been installed on the
west side.

Digging out the driveway in March 1953. The camera faces
east, and must be very close to New Hampshire Avenue. The
house on the right is the house intended for the parsonage
before the deal was altered. From left to right: Susan Woodward,
unidentified, James Miller.

Extending the west wall of the stable, on May 31, 1953. Someone
is barely visible in the shadow on the left. The people out
in the light are, from left to right, Gene Miller, Jim Miller,
Lee Conant, and Al Dewis. The weather must still have been
cool; everybody is wearing long sleeves, and two men have
on hats.

James Miller stands in the east entrance to the Fellowship
House, next to the East Wing—a tool shed, which is no
longer there.

The Fellowship Picnic on the church grounds in June, 1953.
(However, the photo was printed in May, 1959.) The camera
is facing north. Note the house under construction. Max Miller
kneels with his back to us. Dorothy MacPherson stands in front
of the umbrella.

The LRY has a supper at the parsonage in March or April 1953
after working on the church property. From left to right:
unidentified male, Ann Bristol, Dorothy MacPherson (seated),
Mr. Gleeson, Susan Woodward, Ms. McCain (seated), her sister
Eleanor McCain, Sharon Anderson (at one time engaged to Francis
Miller), unidentified female.

The LRY at an outing in the woods in October 1958. Two Hula
Hoops, a baseball bat, and a slingshot are visible. From left
to right: Unidentified male (in plaid shirt), Francis Miller,
5 unidentified teens, the Rev. David MacPherson (standing,
in the center) 4 more unidentified teens, Robert Miller (in
the dark shirt), unidentified male (about to whack Robert
with the bat).

A Fellowship meeting inside the new Fellowship house, June
1954. Note the bare walls and exposed wiring to the light
switch. The room seems very bright for candle light, but David
MacPherson says that the power was not on. There are lighted
candles on the piano and next to the window on the south wall
(at right); that window is no longer there today. Most of
the chairs are folding metal chairs. From left to right: Margaret
Dewis, Marian Golion, Betty Perry, an unidentified female
(mostly hidden), unidentified male (in a white shirt in front
of the piano), an unidentified female (in back), Jack Westover
(in the dark suit), Albert Dewis, David Whitehill (in the
back, wearing a white shirt), Edith Whitehill, Sulo Koivisto
(in the light suit), Mrs. Koivisto, Gene Miller (in back of
her in a dark suit), unidentified woman (half hidden), Norman
Brace (standing in back in front of the door), Max Miller
(wearing a bow tie), Dorothy MacPherson, Joseph Fitzpatrick
(in a very dark suit), James Miller (standing in back), Lee
Conant (in front with arms folded), Phillis Jay, Louis Conant,
Alice Louise Miller, and someone’s left leg.

Left: The Minister’s office in the loft of the Fellowship
House. The photo was taken in May 1959. Note the elegant desk
and chair. The sign just above the phone reads: “THINK”.

The sign in front of the church property. New Hampshire Avenue
is one lane each way. Note the driveway in front of the fence
with the car in it, and the cut in the curb by the mailbox.
The sign reads:

HILLANDALE SCHOOL

RE Teachers for 1952-1953. From left to right: Dorothy Conant,
holding a book of songs and one entitled Martin and Judy;
Dorothy MacPherson, resting Child of the Sun on the
table; Gene Miller, examining Jesus; and Coral Pollack,
holding The Family Finds Out and a second book the title
of which is illegible. |
