Lego Party
Lego Party: An Adult ritual for Remembering the Inner ChildThe idea for this party was first proposed by Laura Ellis after she saw the Lego Chalice I created for the church volunteer fair. In the hustle and bustle world we live in, we often forget the importance of play. I feel that the gift of play is a spiritual gift from the divine to help us keep in touch with our forgotten childhood. With that in mind, Laura and I hosted the first ever Lego party for adults. Laura prepared all sorts of snack food that we had as children and I brought my Lego collection to the church. We started the ritual by lighting the Lego Chalice. We then played the Lego game "Creator." The winners of the game each received a Lego set of their own. After the game, I took everyone over to a table where I had emptied my Lego collection of over 100,000 bricks, and we had free-form building for a couple of hours. When the party was over, I had everyone fill out a Lego postcard to someone that they wanted to tell about the party. Everyone had a great time, so Laura and I decided to offer it again this year. —Kevin Drewery |
