As a Member or Friend of UUCSS your email address
may be added to the Caring List.
Currently this list is run by Jim Aldrich. He broadcasts e-mail
from his home computer. We have plans to create a listserv for
the Caring List.
Our Minister, the Rev. Lerner, past Board of Trustees President,
Ed Johnson, and UUCSS members who have been involved in electronic
communication at our church have agreed to the following:
What is the Caring E-List?
- A Caring Committee list maintained by the Membership Committee.
- The Caring E-List is set up as a listserv. [Not yet. Please
be patient.
— webmaster]
- It is separate and distinct from the existing UUCSS discussion
e-list.
- It posts important announcements from the Caring Committee
and from the Minister or Board President.
- It is self-maintained by the members who choose to participate.
Members can subscribe, change their own e-mail addresses, and
unsubscribe just as they do now on the UUCSS discussion e-list.
What is its scope?
- The Caring E-List is available by individual subscription
to the Members and Friends of UUCSS. Members and Friends are
automatically added to the list, however, anyone who does not
want to receive these messages can opt out.
- Ad hoc “telephone trees” will be used to contact
those people who are not participating in the Caring E-List.
However, not all “Caring Messages” warrant the use
of a telephone tree.
Who has the right to post?
The Chair of the Caring Coordination Committee, the Minister,
the Board President and the List Manager(s). Members and Friends
are
not
permitted
to post to the list. They may respond to individual e-mail addresses
of participants if those
e-mail addresses are made available in the context of the announcement.
They may, also, contact the sender of the message, i.e., the Minister,
Board President, or Caring Committee Chair.
What would be posted?
- Requests to help members, who are sick, require rides to doctors
or hospitals or require emergency help.
- Announcements of deaths and memorial services.
- Announcements in unusual circumstances, such as announcing
the special weekday services following the events of 9/11.
- Other announcements that the Minister or Board President deem
necessary or appropriate.
