The Unitarian Universalist Church of Silver Spring
Religious Education: Adult
UUCSS offers a wide variety of Adult classes, groups and activities. Those organized by the Adult Religious Education Program include Crossroads Coffee, Discussion Groups, Spiritual Practice Sessions, and Workshops. Our congregation has chosen to highlight the importance of diversity, spiritual practice, and environmental sustainability in our Strategic Plan, and our Adult RE Program prioritizes these themes.
Crossroads Coffee—Each Sunday a facilitated discussion on a different topic or issue takes place during Coffee Hour (between the services, from 10:30-11:15). On the 4th Sunday of each month, a special “Visitors Coffee” is hosted by the Membership Committee, with UUCSS Board Members and Staff available to answer questions from visitors and new members. Check the church bulletin, weekly e-mail announcements and the Uniter newsletter for announcements of upcoming topics and dates.
Workshops—A different workshop will be offered most every 3rd Sunday afternoon from 1-3 pm in the Sanctuary. Themes range from “Aging” to “Domestic Violence” to “Parenting and Spirituality” to “Green Sanctuary.” See Upcoming Events for specific dates, times and topics.
Diversity Series—The Adult RE Committee is working in conjunction with the UUCSS Diversity Team to create a series that brings us another step closer to our goal of becoming a multi-racial, multi-cultural congregation. Check the "What's Happening at UUCSS?" pamphlet for specific topics, dates and times.
Spiritual Practice Groups— Many Unitarian Universalists find that spiritual practices help support and sustain our liberal faith. These practices often come from other faith traditions and can include different forms of prayer and meditation. Thus, UUCSS supports a variety of spiritual practice groups for those who are interested in developing or deepening their spiritual life. Current groups are focused on the following traditions—Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism and Paganism—and groups interested in focusing on another spiritual tradition are welcome to form. Each group leader has experience in their own spiritual practice area and has been trained in facilitation by the Minister of Religious Education. Groups determine their own meeting times and places. Please e-mail the Minister of Religious Education at mre@uucss.org with questions or interest.
